Dr. Sa.rath Amunugama,
Minister of Enterprise
Development and Investment Promotion spoke to
leading personalities in the garment industry
on the support the BOI will be providing to
MAGIC, the leading apparel and sourcing trade
show in North America. He confirmed
that his minis,try would actively promote the
event through the BOI
At this event, which will
be held in Las Vegas, USA at the end of August,
a Sri Lanka pavilion will be exhibited. The
event is organized by MAGIC International Advanstar
Communications Inc. It is a very important event
for the apparel trade because over 30 countries
are represented, thus offering entrepreneurs
the opportunity to meet new trading partners.
The event is important as MAGIC buyers have
in the past made purchases worth US $181million.
Often vice presidents of companies attend the
event.
Dr. Amunugama (stressing
the strategic importance- of the garment industry
said: "The BOI is committed to promote
the apparel industry manufacturers for
the high labour standards maintained."
The minister also spoke of how effectively Sri
Lankan products, notably garments, had
gained access to markets in the European Unidn
for having maintamed high standards in labour
rights and workiking conditions.

August 27-30 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their website
